A former Christian County standout athlete is among the ten players selected to be on the Kentucky Softball All-Decade Team. The team was announced Friday afternoon by the University of Kentucky softball program.
More than 50,000 total votes were cast over 10 days of voting on the UK Athletics website, and Kentucky Softball Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. Fans were given a 24-hour window to vote on every position over the past 10 days, with the votes tallied up from all four medias to comprise one total at the end of the window.
Among those elected to the team was Christian County graduate Griffin Joiner. Joiner played at the University of Kentucky from 2012 to 2015. During her career, Joiner was named to the 2014 NFCA Third Team All-Region, the SEC All-Defensive Team in 2014, and was 3rd at Kentucky in career home runs. She leads UK all-time with 131 walks.
Every player on the team qualified for the NCAA Tournament every year of their career that there was a championship held. Between the 10 players, there are over 150 home runs, 500 total runs scored, 1,000 runs batted in, and 200 stolen bases.
There are a total of 27 appearances in the NCAA Super Regionals and three players who saw Hall of Fame Stadium when Kentucky made its appearance in the 2014 Women’s College World Series.
