Trigg County Has a ‘Jolly’ Night in Win Over Hopkinsville

Most of the time, if a team gets out shot in a soccer match by 19 attempts, things don’t end up going well for them. The Trigg County Wildcats turned that stat on its head Monday evening, as they were out shot by Hopkinsville 27-8, but still took the match 3-1 at the Stadium of Champions.

The Wildcats got three goals from Will Jolly, none of them coming in the flow of game play, as they picked up their first win over the Tigers since 2010.

Trigg County got on the board early in the contest. After a foul on Hopkinsville in the box, Will Jolly drilled the penalty kick and the Wildcats lead 1-0 just 3 ½ minutes into the match.

Jolly would find the net again later in the first half. This time after another foul on Hopkinsville, Jolly nailed the direct kick from high out on the left side, and the Trigg County lead grew to 2-0 at the 30:00 mark.

Hopkinsville made a move to get back in the match in the final minute of the first half. This time it was the Tigers getting the penalty kick from Jose Favela to cut the Trigg County lead to 2-1 going into the break.

In the first half, Hopkinsville out shot Trigg County 15-4. The Tigers got pressure going down the field from Favela and Josh Hermosillo, but could not find the net outside of the penalty kick.

The second half was more of the same. Hopkinsville pushing the attack down the field. Trigg County turning the Tigers away, time after time.

Trigg County finally sealed the victory, when Will Jolly made his second penalty kick of the night to push the lead out to 3-1.

The Wildcats got splendid play in goal from Joseph Crawford. Additionally, Trigg got huge defensive efforts from Evron Carlson and Dominik Lee.

Trigg County is now 3-26-3 all time against Hopkinsville. The Wildcats improve to 4-3-1 on the season.

Hopkinsville falls to 2-5.
