
The regular season in football is now officially over for public schools in Jefferson County. The official announcement came Friday morning, and will mark the second Friday night in a row that public school football teams have been prohibted from playing due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials with the Jefferson County public schools also announced that the situation for the following week would be reviewed next Thursday with a decision to follow. That decision would affect the playoff status for teams in the state’s largest county, as the KHSAA football playoffs are scheduled to start November 13.
As a part of the Jefferson County decision, football teams can only practice in small groups, with no game simulations allowed. That also affects the winter sports teams in Jefferson County that have started practice schedules.
Jefferson County teams will be allowed to take part in this weekend’s state cross country meet.
