After three close calls to begin the season, McLean County’s strong start Tuesday was enough to defeat Hopkins County Central 63-43 for its first win of the season.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 17-5 first quarter lead with Kamryn McMahon scoring seven of her game-high 19 points.

Hopkins County Central found some footing in the second quarter as Keli Reynolds scored seven of her nine points. However, McLean still took a 35-18 lead into halftime.

Emile Jones scored five points in the third quarter to help get the Lady Storm to within 11 points with eight minutes to go. However, McLean was too strong in the final frame and coasted to the 20-point win.

The Lady Storm, one of the top free throw shooting teams in the region last year, were able to keep things manageable in the contest by hitting 17-of-23 at the line.

Madison Grigg led the Lady Storm with 10 points, with Reynolds and Jones adding nine points.

Hopkins County Central will host Ohio County Thursday.
