After a two week delay due to significant increases in COVID-19 cases in the county, the winter sports season is set to get underway Monday for athletes in Christian County Public Schools. While the KHSAA allowed competition to resume on January 4, school officials had decided, due to multiple factors that included elevated case numbers in the community, elevated case numbers in the school system, and Jennie Stuart Medical Center running at near capacity levels, to delay the start in Christian County.

Action is set to begin Monday evening with girls basketball action at both Christian County and Hopkinsville.

One team will be delayed a bit longer. The Christian County boys basketball team is hoping now to start its season January 26.

The decision to resume athletics comes alongside the announcement that the Christian County Public Schools would be returning to in-person instruction on Tuesday.

Sports resuming competition in Christian County next week include boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, swimming, and wrestling.
