The seeding for the Boys’ 5th District Basketball Tournament likely won’t be known until March 2 when Trigg County and Lyon County meet in Cadiz.
Because of COVID-19 guidelines in place for the 2020-21 season only, the KHSAA ruled that only the first game between district teams will count toward the seeding of the district tournament.
Lyon County (14-2) owns wins over Crittenden County (78-57) and Livingston Central (102-53) and can lock up the top seed with a win over the Wildcats.
Trigg County (4-5) lost its only district contest to Crittenden County 75-69 on Jan. 26. They play at Livingston Central Tuesday in addition to the March 2 date with Lyon. If the Wildcats win both district games, they would force the rare three-way tie for the top seed.
Crittenden County (6-4) and has completed the district cycle with a 2-1 record and would win the head-to-head tiebreaker with Trigg County if they both finish 2-1.
If Livingston Central (2-11) beats Trigg County Tuesday, they would be the No. 3 seed and Trigg the No. 4 seed regardless of Trigg’s outcome with Lyon due to winning the head-to-head tiebreaker.
There is no such drama with the girls’ tournament. Crittenden County locked up the No. 1 seed and will play No. 4 seed Crittenden County. Defending district champion Trigg County is the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 seed Lyon County. The No. 1 seed has not won the girls’ district title since Lyon County in 2016.
The 5th District Tournament will be the week of March 15 at Trigg County.
