Christian County Girls Fall to Henderson Long-Distance Attack

The Henderson County girls’ basketball team knocked down 13 3-pointers over the first three quarters against visiting Christian County on Monday, running out 72-50 winners in the battle of the Lady Colonels.

The loss is the fifth-straight for Christian County, leaving them at 5-7 ahead of a trip to Warren Central on Tuesday.

Kaytlan Kemp scored 7 points and Jarie Thomas added 6 to get Henderson off to a strong start and they led 22-11 after the first quarter.

Gracie Risley found the range from behind the arc in the second, drilling four 3-pointers for Henderson.  Christian County only managed 9 points, 4 from Sarah Harris, and trailed 43-20 at the halftime break.

Henderson continued to pull away in the second half, with Mallorie Veal putting up 8 points and Sadie Wurth scoring 5 to outscore Christian County 22-12 in the third quarter.  Ne’Veah Day and Trinity McGee combined for 8 points for Christian County, but they were down 65-32 with a quarter to play.

Christian County enjoyed their highest-scoring quarter with 18 points in the fourth.  Ashanti Banks scored 6 and Harris and Anaysia Bagwell combined for 8, but the hole was too deep for a comeback.

McGee and Banks reached double figures for Christian County, while Day finished with 9 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.  They shot just over 38% from the field as a team and 12/17 from the free-throw line, while pulling down 26 rebounds.

Risley’s 18 led all scorers for Henderson, joined in double figures by Veal with 13.  They shot 44.6% from the field as a team, including a blistering 13/26 from 3-point range.
