
Caldwell County grad Emma Staples slammed a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning as her Frontier College softball team defeated Lincoln Trail 13-12 Wednesday night in Fairfield Ill.
The Frontier Bobcats rallied in both games to sweep the twinbill, taking the first game earlier Wednesday 16-14.
Staples had a two-run double in the opener for the Bobcats and finished with three RBIs in that game.
Staples is hitting .286 this season for Frontier, which is now 5-3 after Wednesday’s wins.
The former Lady Tiger is 6 for 21 at the plate with six runs batted in, eight runs scored and two stolen bases this season.
Staples and Frontier College are scheduled to take the field again on Saturday when they play a pair of games at Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Ill.
