Looking for a second straight win for the first time in 2021, the Christian County High School baseball team struggled at the plate and fell for the sixth time in seven games with a 10-0 loss at Calloway County.

Lakers senior pitcher Colby White (2-0) struck out five and walked just two in his four-hit, six-inning shutout. He also led his team offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in Murray.

The Colonels, who were attempting to build off their district victory over University Heights Academy from three days prior, got Brylle Javier on base, thanks to a one-out Calloway error in the top of the first inning.

Two pitches later, however, White induced an inning-ending double play to keep County off the board. White then allowed a leadoff single to freshman Preston Phan in the second inning, but courtesy runner David Krzywada proceeded to get picked off at first base to once again clear the bases.

Christian County’s tough luck continued in the fourth inning, when Javier and Patrick Liddell delivered back-to-back singles, only to watch the Lakers turn a Colonel bunt into a fielder’s choice out and a Houston George ground ball into a fielder’s choice double play.

In the bottom half of that frame, the Lakers exploded for seven runs, including an RBI single from White, a passed ball, and a pair of bases-loaded walks. Jayden Rollins had the biggest knock of the fourth inning on a deep single to left that plated two runs.

Calloway County (5-2) ended the run-shortened game on Jackson Chapman’s one-out RBI single to left field.

On the mound, Phan (0-1) took the loss for the Colonels. He surrendered eight hits and six runs — all earned — during 3 /13 innings of work. He struck out one and walked a pair. Krzywada allowed six hits and four runs (three earned) during the final two innings in relief.

Javer, Liddell, and Phan — Christian County’s 2-4 hitters, each had a hit. Designated hitter George Forrest had the other. He also drew a walk in two plate appearances.

Next up for the Colonels (1-6), who will take the field for the second time in as many days, and play their second of five straight road games, is 2nd Region opponent Madisonville-North Hopkins. The Maroons are off to a 2-3 start.
