After Perryville’s Alyssa Wray finished her performance on American Idol Sunday night, show host Ryan Seacrest reminded the national audience watching on ABC-TV that “she wants that storybook ending.”
Unfortunately, she won’t get it.
Wray was one of three final 10 contestants that did not advance to the next round of seven and the Northern Kentucky University freshman’s quest to win American Idol ended.
Contestants spent an off week at Walt Disney World in Orlando after making the top 10 and Wray could not have been happier.
“I am so happy. I have never been here before,” she said during her interview at Disney World. “I saw all the Disney princesses. I used to dress up like all the princesses, especially Cinderella. Walt Disney World is even more magical than I dreamed of and I am having the time of my life.”
She was mentored by actor/singer/comedian John Stamos. She told him she always felt she was “meant for more” but never felt she could achieve it. He praised her for doing her “best” on the show.
“Life can be hard. It can be cruel. You don’t have a chance unless you fight,” Stamos told her.
She went out and did that with her performance of “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes” from the movie Cinderella that contained the words “keep believing your dream will come true.”
The judges liked what they heard.
“The control in this performance was unlike any other performance,” Katy Perry told Wray. “It was eloquent and you are a permanent princess.”
“It is so fun to watch you blossom into this work of art,” judge Luke Bryan said. “Everything from your presence from who you are to the way you delivered was a work of art.”
Lionel Richey joked he had to go back and watch the movie “Cinderella” now.
“I am sure you are in that movie,” he told Wray. “Let me tell you what I was thinking. I was praying hold it. You were letting us in. Sometimes you have a tendency to give it to us too early. You did amazing.”
Amazing indeed and Wray should be proud of what she did. She blossomed into a star on national TV and this is not going to be the end of her musical career. She should return to Kentucky with her head held high knowing she made a lot of fans and brought smiles to a lot of people with her performances.
Wray had a radiant personality on stage and there’s no real way to know what did or did not resonate with a national TV voting audience.
Hopefully, she’ll just remember all the praise the judges gave her and use that as inspiration to build on the career American Idol has helped jumpstart for her.
