Falcons’ Late Flurry Stuns Trigg County 4-3

9-20-blaszkowski

Aiden Blaszkowski needed just over one half of play to double his season goal output for Fort Campbell. And it came at a good time.

The Falcon junior scored on a pair of penalty kicks and two headers in the final 21 minutes to help Fort Campbell erase a 3-0 deficit and beat Trigg County 4-3 Monday.

Trigg County controlled the first 58 minutes of the contest. Timmy Mendez scored in the 10th minute to stake the Wildcats to a 1-0 lead.  Fort Campbell outshot the Wildcats 7-3 in the first 40 minutes but couldn’t dent the scoreboard.

Trigg added to its lead when Keller Nichols was fouled in the box and converted the penalty kick in the 51st minute.

Four minutes later, it seemed Trigg was in cruise control when Daniel Jimenez fed Mendez for his second tally of the match and a 3-0 Trigg lead.

The momentum was short-lived as Blaszkowski was fouled in the box and knocked home the PK with 21 minutes left to cut the Trigg lead to 3-1.

Just seven minutes later, Blaszkowski was fouled again and netted his second penalty kick of the night to make it a 3-2 Trigg lead.

With five minutes left and Fort Campbell controlling possession, Mendez was given his second yellow card of the match forcing Trigg to play a man down.

Blaszkowski headed home a pass from the corner from Colby Tate with three minutes left to tie the match.  Leon King fed Blaszkowski off a corner two minutes later, and the result was the same — a Blaszkowski header for the goal.

The Falcons outshot Trigg 7-4 in the second half and 14-7 for the match. Trigg had just one shot on goal in the final 21 minutes.

The win was Fort Campbell’s second straight after a weekend win over Fort Knox. The Falcons [3-4] will play at Christian County Wednesday in a district contest.

Trigg County dropped to 2-7-1 and will play at Lyon County Tuesday in the continuation of the August 30 game stopped due to lightning.  The contest was stopped with 6:41 left in the first half and Trigg holding a 2-1 advantage.
