Caldwell County’s girls scored a pair of unanswered goals in the second half to slip past Paducah Tilghman 3-2 in soccer action at Butler Stadium in Princeton.

Kendall Boyd scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute to complete the Lady Tiger comeback in a game that was delayed just over 30 minutes by lightning.

Kiersa Atnip had given Paducah Tilghman (6-4-1) a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.

That’s where the contest stood when lightning forced both teams off the field with 10:53 left in the first half.

But the weather passed, then Caldwell drew even just after the unscheduled break when Keegan Miller scored off an assist from Tallie Branch.

However, the Lady Tornado got on the scoreboard again just before halftime to lead 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Caldwell (5-8) again drew even on an unassisted tally by Harper Ritchey in the second half.

The Lady Tigers then caught a break when Branch was hit in the box, drawing a penalty kick.

Boyd hammered home the kick to push Caldwell in front, and the Lady Tigers held on for the one-goal triumph.

Tilghman had dictated much of the action in the first half, but the Lady Tigers finished in strong fashion. Caldwell created numerous scoring opportunities down the stretch while limiting Tilghman’s chances at the other end of the field.

With the win, Caldwell tied the all-time series with Paducah Tilghman 9-9-3.

The Lady Tigers will return to action on Thursday when they visit Paducah St. Mary as part of a girls and boys doubleheader.
