Jacob Wease threw three touchdown passes while Kendrick Adams and Kelsey Parham each ran for two scores as Trigg County enjoyed a big night on Homecoming.
The Wildcats scored 21 points in the first 6:01 of the contest and went on to rout Fulton County 54-16 Friday night in Cadiz.
It took Trigg (3-2) less than a minute to get the jump on the Pilots (1-5) in the Wildcats’ first home game of the season.
Adams capped off the first drive of the night with an 11-yard bull rush to the end zone that saw him carry numerous defenders over the goal line. Keller Nichols kicked the extra point to put the Wildcats up 7-0 at the 11:01 mark of the first quarter.
Wease’s first TD toss came on the next series when he found Dillon Skinner for a 34-yard scoring connection. Nichols added the PAT to make it 14-0 with 8:16 left in the opening period.
On the next possession, Wease sent a pass deep down the left sideline, where Jhaden Vaughn made the reception. He slipped a Fulton County defender and was off for a 68-yard touchdown pass play. Nichols’ kick made it 21-0 with still 5:59 left in the first quarter.
The Pilots settled down long enough to put together a scoring march that was culminated by a 14-yard touchdown pass from Max Gibbs to Dakyran Gossett. Gibbs’ two-point run cut the margin to 21-8 with 11:54 left in the first half.
But the rest of the half belonged to Trigg.
Parham’s first touchdown run came on a 3-yard carry with 7:36 remaining in the second quarter. Again, Nichols hit the PAT to make it 28-8 with 7:36 left in the period.
Adams got his second TD of the night on a 20-yard run with 2:50 to go in the first half. Nichols’ kick made it 35-8.
But Trigg wasn’t finished. The Wildcats got the ball back one more time before the break — and cashed in on a 5-yard touchdown run by Parham. The try failed, but Trigg went to halftime with a 41-8 advantage.
The second half was played with a running clock, but Trigg still found the end zone two more times.
First, Dakota Lockard picked up a punt that had almost rolled to a stop, cut back across the field and raced 50 yards to paydirt. The kick failed, but the Wildcats extended their margin to 47-8 with 50 seconds to go in the third quarter.
Lockard struck again in the fourth quarter, taking a Wease pass 53 yards to the end zone. Nichols converted the PAT to give Trigg a 54-8 lead with 5:58 to play.
Fulton got on the scoreboard with 2:43 to go when Gibbs hit Damien Hill with a 7-yard touchdown pass. Gibbs then passed for to Gossett for the two-point conversion. That last touchdown was set up by a 73-yard pass from Gibbs to Jayden Smith.
Trigg plays at home again next week, hosting Paducah Tilghman for its first Class 3A 1st District contest of the season.
