Defending state champion Marshall County is heading back to Bowling Green after claiming the girls’ 1st Region golf championship Tuesday in Murray.

The Lady Marshals totaled a team score of 305 to outdistance runner-up McCracken County by 20 shots.

It’s the fifth-straight regional crown for Marshall.

Megan Hertter and Trinity Beth both carded 1-over-par 74s at the regional tourney, which was played at Murray Country Club.

That was just two shots behind individual champion Cathryn Brown of Lyon County.

McCracken’s Madison Glisson placed second with a 73.

Also for Marshall, Savannah Howell shot a 77, Katie Roberts 80 and Elsie Riley 87.

Besides Marshall’s team, the next top seven individuals have also qualified for state. That group is Brown, Glisson, Paducah St. Mary’s Ellie Roof (79), McCracken’s Sophie Hollowell (81), Caldwell County’s Claire Knoth (82), Graves County’s Ellie West (82) and McCracken’s Rachel Hagan (84).

Bowling Green Country Club will host state. A practice round is set for Monday, with the first round next Tuesday and the final round slated for next Wednesday.
