Cavanaugh, Wildcats Win in Final Region Meet Tune-Up

Trigg County’s Austin Cavanaugh warmed up for next week’s region cross country meet by winning the King and Queen of the West Invitational Saturday at Hopkinsville Community College.

Cavanaugh covered the longer-than-advertised 3.1-mile course in a time of 18:12. He finished 42 seconds ahead of McCracken County’s Jake Crittendon. It’s the second win of the season for Cavanaugh and his fifth top-two finish this season.

He was one of five Trigg County runners to finish inside the top-20 and helped Trigg win the team title. Riley Thompson finished eighth in 19:29. Marshall Jenkins crossed the finish line in 13th place in 19:35, and River Oliver was 16th in 19:49.

Timmy Cannon rounded out the scoring with a 19th place finish in 19:53. Travis Cavanagh finished in 30th place, Jack Lingenfelter was 38th, and Joseph Crawford finished 46th.

Trigg County’s team total of 54 points beat second-place McCracken county by 10 points. Graves County was third with 101 points.

Trigg County will host the Class 2A Region 1 cross country meet Saturday at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.
