The Hopkinsville Tigers appear to be playing their best football of the season at just the right time. The Tigers enter the playoffs Friday night on a four-game winning streak with one of those wins coming against Friday night’s opponent, the Hopkins County Central Storm.

The Hoptown offense has found its legs over the past four weeks. The Tigers have scored an average of 43 points per contest in wins over Hopkins Central, Madisonville, Calloway County, and Paducah Tilghman.

The Tilghman win was the Tigers’ most impressive performance of the season as Hoptown dominated the Blue Tornado on both sides of the ball.

Two weeks ago, the Tigers held the Storm to just seven points as they cruised to a 35-7 win in Mortons Gap.

Jayden Dillard had a big game that night for Hopkinsville, rushing for 146 yards and a touchdown. Daisjaun Mercer also ended up being more than Central could handle. Mercer caught 6 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns. It was also a solid night for quarterback Treyvon Jefferson, who ended up going 10-17-2 for 189 yards and two touchdowns.

The Tigers’ defense caused nightmare issues for Storm QB Adrian Stringer. Hoptown’s defense came up with 10 sacks and two interceptions and limited Stringer to less than 200 yards passing.

One of the concerns if you are a Hoptown fan is that the Tigers might get caught looking ahead to a 2nd round rematch with Logan County. Tiger head coach Craig Clayton says that is something that he has mentioned to his team every day this week.

This will be the first postseason meeting between the two schools. Hopkinsville comes into the game at 6-4, while the Storm also comes in at 6-4.
