Top 10 Texas guard Cason Wallace expected to pick Kentucky today

Kentucky should land its third top-10 player in the 2022 recruiting class today when Texas guard Cason Wallace makes his college choice. He’s been seen as a heavy Kentucky lean for weeks but wanted to wait until today on his birthday to make his college choice official. He would join Shaedon Sharpe and Chris Livingston, both top five players, in UK’s 2022 recruiting class.

Richardson High School coach Kevin Lawson says his star guard is not a “high volume shooter” but not to doubt his ability.

“Because he doesn’t shoot a lot, that kind of made him a late bloomer when it comes to the rankings,” Lawson said. “He was not scoring 35 points a game in high school or AAU as a sophomore or junior. He was more concerned with making his teammates better.

“The real basketball guys and coaches, once they watched him they saw he was not just a Twitter guy who could dunk.  Most were floored by how good he is.”

The 6-4, 185-pound Wallace is a consensus five-star recruit and one of the best shooting guards and defensive playmakers in the 2022 class.

Wallace had a relationship with Kentucky assistant coach Jai Lucas when Lucas was still an assistant coach at Texas.

“That helped (Kentucky). Coach Lucas was here his sophomore year. He came by and visited when he was young. I had his number and knew he was on the radar with him,” Lawson said.  “But he has always wanted a Kentucky opportunity and that scholarship offer meant a lot to him. It was just special.”

Wallace is currently ranked as the No. 7 overall player in 2022 and the No. 2 overall combo guard via 247 Sports Composite.

Texas and Tennessee are the other schools considered to be in his final three.
