Heritage Christian Claims KCAA Tip-Off Classic Title

Heritage Christian Academy positioned itself as the top boys’ basketball team in the early stages of the Kentucky Christian Athletic Association season by claiming the KCAA Tip-Off Classic Saturday in Independence.

The eight-team event annually serves as the unofficial kickoff to the KCAA basketball season and for the Warriors, it marked the first time in nine years that they claimed the title.

Heritage Christian knocked off region rival Oak Ridge Christian 62-31 in the championship game. The Warriors used a 14-3 run to start the game and never looked back from there.

Carlos Robles scored 14 points and handed out seven assists on his way to being named the tournament MVP. Triston Folz had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Wills and Weston Powell each scored 10 points with Powell adding seven rebounds.

Heritage advanced to the championship with a 46-35 come-from-behind win over Lakeside Christian.

The Warriors used a 19-6 fourth quarter run to pick up the semifinal win as Weston Powell scored seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter. He also had 12 rebounds.
Robles led all scorers with 19 points.

Heritage opened the tournament Friday with a 62-42 win over Cornerstone. The Warriors outscored Cornerstone 30-12 in the second and third quarters combined to pull away for the win.
Robles had 16 points and five steals as 10 Warriors scored in the contest.

Powell and Hayes joined Robles on the All-Tournament Team.

HCA returns to action Thursday at Christian Community, Tenn.
