Colonels End Losing Skid With Strong Finish Against Champaign Central

Christian County’s defense limited Champaign Central to just two field goals in the final quarter Saturday as the Colonels finished strong and picked up a 64-43 win in the Marion Black Diamond Diamond Shootout in Marion, Illinois. The win ended a 12-game losing skid for the Colonels that stretched back to the 2020 2nd Region semifinals.

The game had been fairly close throughout until the strong finish by the Colonels. Christian County led 13-11 after the opening quarter. That lead grew to 23-19 at the half.

The Colonels kept inching out during the third quarter, extending the lead to 38-32. Then the bottom fell out for Champaign Central.

While Champaign Central was struggling to score, Jordan Miles, Derrell Bateman, and K.J. Vaughn were finishing strong, helping the Colonels to blow the game open coming down the stretch.

Four Colonels hit double-figures in the contest. Jordan Miles led the way with 18 points and was named the game’s MVP. Breeland Morrison finished with 13 points. Derrell Bateman added 12, while K.J. Vaughn had 11.

The win moves the Colonels to 1-1 on the year. They get back to action Tuesday night at Madisonville.
