The Trigg County Lady Wildcats continued their best start in a decade Saturday at the Muhlenberg County Lady Mustang Classic. Using a big run at the end of the third quarter and beginning of the 4th quarter to get to the lead, Trigg picked up its third win in a row to open the season when they took down McLean County 48-36.
The win equals a 3-0 start the Lady Wildcats had during the 2011-2012 season under head Coach Amy Breckel. The last time the Lady Wildcats opened a season 4-0 was back in 1993-94 when they were coached by Glenn Ringstaff. The best start in program history was back in 1991-92, when Mike Wright’s Lady Wildcats started the season off at 6-0.
The first quarter saw the teams go back and forth. There were four lead changes in the first 8 minutes as McLean County would make a late three to take an 11-10 lead.

The Lady Wildcats, who were not burning the nets up in the first quarter, went a bit cooler in the second. Trigg County would connect on 2 of 12 in the second quarter, enabling McLean County to build a 23-16 lead going into the half.
The lead would still be at seven points at 32-25 when Trigg County made the game-changing run and Marleigh Reynolds began to take over down in the paint on both ends of the court.
Trigg County would score the final nine points of the third quarter to take a 34-32 lead going into the fourth. Marleigh Reynolds had a monster third quarter, scoring ten points for the Lady Wildcats. Trigg County would score the first four points of the final quarter to push the lead out to 38-32.
McLean County finally scored to end a long drought with just under four minutes to go in the game to make it 38-34. But Trigg County would do the things it needed to lock up the win. The Lady Wildcats came up with key rebounds and steals and got huge free throws late from Olivia Noffsinger as they pulled out to the final margin of 12 points.

Noffsinger went 6 of 6 at the line in the 4th quarter to make sure that there would be no McLean County comeback in the final minutes.
Reynolds and Noffsinger owned the night for Trigg County, with each finishing the game with 19 points.
McLean County was paced by Sarah Miller, who was the only Lady Cougar to reach double figures with 11 points.
Trigg County was 15 of 45 from the field, including 5 of 20 from behind the arc. The Lady Wildcats outrebounded McLean County 48-41 and came up with seven steals in the contest.
The Lady Wildcats move to 3-0 and will take the court next Friday night against Livingston Central.
