5 Individual Champs Help Caldwell Finish Runner-up at Coyote Classic

Caldwell County was runner-up in the team standings and had five individuals claim championships in the Coyote Classic at West Creek High School in Clarksville on Saturday.

The Tiger wrestling team, ranked fifth in Kentucky, totaled 227.5 points to trail only Clarksville Rossview, which won the team title with 266 points. Twenty-five teams competed in the event.

Logan Brown went 3-0 at 106 pounds and won all three of his matches by pin. He needed 1:31 to pin Deacon Stewart of Nolensville in the finals.

Collin Teutsch was 4-0 at 120, including an 11-7 decision over Rossview’s Jacob Miller in the championship match.

Riley Johnson blitzed through four matches at 132, winning all of his matches with quick pins. His longest match lasted just 45 seconds. He pinned Max Landrum of Rossview in 22 seconds in the finals.

Dylan Walls went 4-0 to win the 170-pound weight class. His closest match was a 7-4 decision over Jacob Barlow of Coffee County in the semifinals. Walls won by forfeit over Dickson County’s John Campbell in the championship round.

Colin Walls was 4-0 at 182, taking two matches by pin. He won by pin over Marquill Green of John Overton in the finals in 3:38.

Cofy Walls was runner-up at 126, winning his first three matches before losing by technical fall in the championship.

Cole Sherill took third place at heavyweight. He went 5-1 on the day and made it back to the third-place match after being decisioned 8-4 in the quarterfinal round. Sherill decisioned Zyrion Elliott of Clarksville 3-2 to finish third.

In other action for Caldwell, Jackson Riley was 3-2 at 145 pounds and won the 11th-place match by sudden victory. Ethan Newsom was 3-2 at 152, winning the 13th-place match by pin in 1:40. Timothy Nichols was 2-2 at 138. Preston Rogers went 2-2 at 220. Andre Carter was 1-2 at 113 pounds.

In junior varsity action, Xzavier Lee won four matches to claim first place at 120 pound while Cale Goodwin was third at 132.
