National signing day is Wednesday and coach Mark Stoops added another verbal commitment to Kentucky’s 2022 signing class when 6-2, 315-pound Georgia defensive tackle Quentel Jones picked the Cats over Miami, Auburn, Mississippi State, Tennessee and others.
247 Sports ranks Jones 59th among defensive linemen and 36th in the state of Georgia in 2022. He’s only a three-star player but Stoops and his staff have been great at developing three-star recruits into five-star talent before they leave UK.
Jones visited Kentucky last weekend and got his first chance to meet with defensive line coach Anwar Stewart. He had talked with UK defensive coordinator Brad White numerous times but obviously liked everything about his visit to commit Thursday like he did.
“Everything that I do in high school, Kentucky is doing at the college level so I feel like I can fit in there. (Anwar) Stewart is a guy that can make you who you want to be and get you to the next level and be one of the top guys,” Jones told Edwards.
Jones is the 18th player verbally committed to UK and the second defensive lineman (Tomiwa Durojaiye of Delaware is the other one).
Kentucky’s class is now ranked No. 14 overall at 247 Sports.

This is the kind of talent we need to be competitive in the SEC. Kudos to Coach Stoops. Go Cats!
