Freshman guard TyTy Washington knows Kentucky will face an upgrade in the caliber of opponents the next few weeks after going through a series of seven home games where UK was a big favorite every game.
Kentucky plays at Notre Dame Saturday night but Washington insists UK has to stay on an even keel.
“Even though we’re coming in being favorites, we don’t look at it like that. At the end of the day you got to respect your opponent. Anybody could beat anybody on any given day in college basketball,” he said after Tuesday’s win over Southern.
“So we just come out with the same mindset as if you’re playing against, you know, Duke or somebody so it’s just, come out, get ready to focus and I’m ready and ultimately win the game.”
Freshman teammate Daimion Collins is ready for an upgrade in competition even though he realizes it will be a more physical game.
“I’m just excited to go out there and compete and have a good game where tonight the other team played hard,” Collins said after the Southern win. “You know other games the competition will be different.”
Kentucky struggled Tuesday before beating Southern by only 12 points. Washington explained the bigger Wildcats had some matchup issues.
“Smaller guys tend to be way faster. They had a lot of guys on their team that could create off the bounce, so that’s what they were doing,” Washington said. “They were attacking us because they knew they were smaller and were using their speed to their advantage.
“It wasn’t our best, but we still got the job done, so that’s all that matters. I felt like as a whole it could have been way better, we all as a team know that, so back to the drawing board. Satisfied with the win, but back to the drawing board to get better.”

I will not be surprised if Ty Ty has another Duke like performance.

I am with you Daniel
Be thankful, come Jan I think they will be hard to beat,go big blue.
I guess it should be obvious that sounding good is not the same as playing well.
The Sound bites that we get from these players are messages that Calipari delivers through the players.
Pay attention to what they do on the floor not what they say
What they say is what is on there minds to work toward and get better. Ty Ty is doing good at both!. Go TY TY an GO BIG BLUE!
Myself, I love TyTy
