Coming into the season, Shannon Hodge was hoping her eighth-graders would provide her team with depth. On Friday, they made a difference.
Anna Boone scored 20 points, and Elliot Evans came off the bench to add 10 points and three steals to lead the Lady Rockets past Trigg County 56-47 Friday in Marion.
Boone and Taylor Guess combined to score 18 of Crittenden’s 21 points in the third quarter as they outscored Trigg by eight points. Guess only scored four points in the first half as she was relegated to the bench midway through the second quarter with two fouls.
That’s when the eighth graders made a difference. Down 18-14 with Guess on the bench, Boone and Evans scored all of the points in an 11-3 Crittenden run to end the half.
Trigg County jumped out to a 9-2 lead early as Olivia Noffsinger scored seven points out of the gate. The Lady Wildcats led 13-8 at the end of one until Crittenden’s eighth-graders took control in the second frame.
Once Crittenden took control toward the end of the half, they did not relinquish the lead. The Lady Rockets kept their advantage in double-digits for most of the second half.
Noffsinger and Marleigh Reynolds led Trigg County with 16 points each. Reynolds added 11 rebounds, and Noffsinger had seven assists.
