Lady Wildcats Fall in CCA Christmas Tournament Opener

12-18-coble-2

An old nemesis continued to keep Trigg County out of the win column Saturday in the first round of the Community Christian Lady Warrior Christmas Classic in Paducah.

The Lady Wildcats were 2 of 13 at the free throw line in a 56-51 loss to Carlisle County. After three straight wins to begin the season, Trigg County has now dropped three straight.

Free throws have long been a problem for the Lady Wildcats. In two of the losses, the number of missed free throws was more than the final margin. Over the past three seasons, 12 of the 26 losses saw the same thing happen.

Trigg used the long ball to grab a 26-24 halftime lead. The Lady Wildcats hit five of their nine 3-pointers in the first half.

Sophomore Kierra Whitaker scored eight of her team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter. The Lady Comets hit 8 of 13 free throws in the second half and 12 of 20 for the game.

Alexis Jones added 12 points for Carlisle County, who improved to 6-2.  Carlisle also upped its record to 8-4 all-time against Trigg County.

Olivia Noffsinger was the lone Lady Wildcat in double figures with 20 points. Audrey Alexander hit three 3-pointers and finished with nine points.

Trigg County drops into the consolation bracket of the tournament and will play Fulton City Monday at 12:30. Fulton City lost to Christian Fellowship 58-42 Saturday.
