The Hopkinsville picked up their second straight 27-point win Saturday evening. The Tigers used a 22-6 run to finish the second quarter and effectively finish the Clarksville Northwest Vikings as Hoptown roared to an 80-53 win in the City of Hopkinsville Toyota Holiday Classic.

The Tigers had already beaten Union County by 27 points back on Tuesday night.

Out of the gate, it looked as if the Tigers would dismiss the Vikings before the game ever really got going. Hopkinsville took a quick and easy 9-2 lead just two minutes into the game. However, the Vikings had some early fight in them. Northwest would come back and take a brief lead in the opening quarter before the quarter ended in a 15-15 tie.

The game stayed tight in the early moment of the second quarter. With the score tied at 20-20, the bottom then fell out for the Vikings. Hopkinsville scored eight straight to go up 28-20 and the tsunami was underway for Northwest. By the time the teams made it to the locker room for the break, the lead had grown to 42-26.

With their trapping defense leading the way, Hopkinsville kept pulling away from the Vikings in the second half. The lead would be 64-45 after the third quarter. From that point, it was just a matter of playing it out to the final 27 point margin.

As the game went on, the Hopkinsville pressure defense began to wear on the Vikings and the Tigers were able to convert several mistakes into easy baskets as they pulled away.

Bubba Leavell was lights out for the Tigers, scoring all 18 of his points from behind the 3-point line. K.C. Cabiness finished with 15 points, 11 of them in the first half of play. Olajuwon White added 12 for the Tigers. Daisjaun Mercer also reached double figures with 10.

Servontae Williams paced Clarksville Northwest with 13 points. Hagen Albright added 12 for the Vikings.

Hopkinsville improves to 3-2 with the win.

Both teams are back in action in the holiday classic on Tuesday.
