For the third straight game in their appearance in the Chad Gardner Law King of the Bluegrass, the Lyon County Lyons took an early double-digit lead against an opponent. Sadly, for the second time in those three games, the opponent came storming back to take the win.

Louisville Trinity, who ended the Lyon County baseball season in the state semifinals, rallied from a big first-half deficit to get by the Lyons 77-73 in the semifinals of the consolation bracket of the King of the Bluegrass.

Behind hot outside shooting, the Lyons took a 17-6 lead after the first eight minutes of the game. Lyon County knocked down five three-pointers during the opening quarter to get to the front.

Trinity began the push to get back into the game in the second quarter. The Shamrocks got their offense rolling, putting up 26 points in the second as they cut the Lyon County lead to 37-32 at the half.

The rally for Trinity continued as the two teams came back on the floor for the second half. By the time the third quarter came to an end, the Lyon County lead was down to a precarious 52-51.

In their game against Belfry Sunday night, the Lyons were ultimately able to stem the tide of the Pirates’ comeback. However, like the Saturday night opener against Ashland Blazer, the momentum of the Trinity comeback was not to be denied as the Shamrocks completed the comeback and took the four-point win to advance to the championship game of the consolation side of the KOB bracket.

For the second game in a row, Jackson Shoulders led the way for Lyon County with 26. Travis Perry added 25. Jack Reddick also hit double figures with 15.

Cameron McClain led all scorers in the game with 29 points for the Shamrocks. Christopher Walls added 1o for Trinity.

Lyon County drops to 4-3 with the loss.
