Maybe it was the early afternoon start time. Maybe it was the delay at the start of the game due to uniform issues for the Colonels. Maybe, it was Bowling Green looking to make a point after Christian County pushed the Purples to the limit in a two-point game just one week earlier.
Whatever it was, it was not a good thing for the Christian County Colonels Thursday afternoon. Bowling Green opened the game on an 11-2 run and was never seriously threatened after that as the Purples cruised to a 77-38 win in the City of Hopkinsville Toyota Holiday Classic.
The Purples, who remain unbeaten with the win, led 13-6 after the opening quarter. Led by Turner Buttry, Mason Ritter, and M.J. Wardlow, Bowling Green then dropped the hammer for good in the 2nd quarter. The Purples’ defense limited Christian County to just five points in the quarter as they pulled away to a 32-11 halftime lead.
Jordan Miles and Breland Morrison were able to spark the Colonel offense in the third quarter, but the defense could not rein in the Bowling Green offense on the other end. By the time the third ended, the Purples were leading 57-30.
Bowling Green would continue to stretch out the lead, bringing the running clock into play with 4:30 to go in the 4th quarter and sealing up the 39 point win.
Jordan Miles was the only Colonel to reach double figures with 12 points. Breland Morrison finished with eight.
Bowling Green’s Turner Buttry led all scorers with 19. M.J. Wardlow added 16 points, while Mason Ritter finished with 12.
Christian County drops to 2-5 with the loss. The Colonels will take on Clarksville Northwest Wednesday in their final game in the Holiday Classic.
The Purples are now 8-0. Bowling Green will take on Hopkinsville Wednesday.
