Caldwell Claims McLean County Tourney Title 48-47

The Caldwell County Tigers are champions of the McLean County Agrigold Christmas Tournament.

The Tigers held off host McLean 48-47 in the championship game of the event on Wednesday. That contest was played at the Sportscenter in Owensboro.

The Cougars (8-3) managed to limit Caldwell leading scorer Jabrion Spikes to just six points. The senior had 30- and 44-point games on Tuesday as the Tigers beat Mayfield and Bethlehem to reach the championship round.

But Caldwell got 13 points from Collin Whittington and 12 from Dewey Riley to thwart McLean.

The Tigers led 12-7 after one quarter and 25-21 at halftime.

Caldwell (5-2) opened up a 42-31 margin through three quarters, then held on late for the win after McLean closed to within a single point.

Carter Whittington added seven points for the Tigers.

McLean got 15 points from Jaxon Floyd and 14 from Brady Dame.

Caldwell’s guys will return to the court on Monday and Tuesday when they host the West Kentucky Hoops Classic at the CAB gym. Fourteen games will be played over those two days. The Tigers will play at 6:30 each day, facing Biggersville, Miss., on Monday before taking on Lyon County on Tuesday.
