Caldwell County and Mayfield entered Thursday’s matchup in the Murray Bank Hardwood Classic with a combined record of 0-10.

Thirty-two minutes still weren’t enough to give one of the girls’ teams its first win of the season.

But the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Cardinals 12-5 in overtime to capture a 60-53 victory in action at Calloway County High School.

Parris Gray poured in a career-high 26 points for Caldwell, which led for most of the contest.

However, Mayfield (0-5) took the lead at 45-44 and 48-46 in the fourth quarter.

Katy Smiley tied the game at 48-48 with two free throws with 3:01 remaining in the contest.

Both teams went scoreless the rest of regulation, sending the game to overtime.

Caldwell never trailed in the extra session after getting back-to-back layups from Smiley and Brylee Butts to start the period.

A Butts 3-pointer put the Lady Tigers up 55-50 with 1:51 left.

Lexi Feagin countered with a 3 of her own at the other end to quickly trim the Mayfield deficit to 55-53. However, those would prove to be the Lady Cardinals’ final points of the day.

Caldwell made enough free throws in the final minute to extend the final margin to seven points.

Gray scored 15 of her 26 points in the first half.

Caldwell also got 13 points from Butts, with five of those coming in overtime. Smiley finished with 11 points.

It was the Lady Tigers’ first win over against Mayfield. Caldwell had been 0-3 against the Lady Cardinals.

Caldwell then played the host Calloway County Lady Lakers, but suffered a 72-56 setback.

The Lady Tigers trimmed a 20-point deficit to 10 in the second half, but ran out of gas after finishing the overtime game just an hour and a half earlier.

Gray and A.J. Hollowell each had 18 points in that contest. Butts added 10.

Sayler Lowe had 30 points to lead Calloway (3-4).

The Lady Lakers have taken three straight from Caldwell. Calloway leads the all-time series 13-2.

Caldwell’s girls next host the West Kentucky Hoops Classic on Monday and Tuesday.
