
The Hopkinsville girls’ basketball team ran into a buzzsaw in their opening game of the McCracken County Hardwood Tournament on Monday, trailing 26-0 in the 1st quarter of a 73-40 loss to the host Lady Mustangs.
McCracken’s Claire Johnson and Destiny Thomas combined for 20 1st-quarter points and the Lady Mustangs led 28-4 after eight minutes.
Donnisha Flowers got going for the Lady Tigers with seven 2nd-quarter points and Kahtahvia Fleming added six to help them outscore McCracken 17-15. The Lady Mustangs took a 43-21 lead into the halftime break.
Twenty-three points was a close at Hopkinsville got in the 2nd half and the Lady Mustangs led by as many as 35 on the way to a 33-point win.
The victory was McCracken’s third straight and they improved to 10-1 overall.
