The Todd County Central Lady Rebels game against the Montgomery Central Lady Indians was effectively over before it really got going. The Lady Rebels opened the game on a 16-o run and were never threatened on the way to a 51-34 win on the first night of the Zaxby’s Christmas Classic at Todd County Central High School.
The Lady Rebels’ defense would limit Montgomery Central to just two first-quarter points as Todd Central took a 21-2 lead. Tamiya Foster hit a three at the buzzer to put the Lady Rebels up by 19.
Todd Central’s defense kept the clamps on during the second quarter and the Lady Rebels were able to generate enough offense to extend the lead out to 32-8 at the break. Foster, along with Lucy Chester and Jamaia Coleman, combined to score 21 points in the first half for the Lady Rebels.
The bad news for the Lady Indians was not much changed in the third quarter. Todd Central opened the quarter on a 10-4 run to blow the lead out to 30 points at 42-12. From that point on in the game, the Lady Rebel starters saw very little action as Coach Matt Fraliex took advantage of the opportunity to get some younger players some much-needed court time. The 3rd quarter would end with Todd Central up 42-17.
Montgomery Central made a 4th quarter run against the younger players to make the final margin look much closer than the game had played for the first three quarters as the Lady Rebels rode it out for the 17 point win.
Jamaia Coleman led a balanced attack for Todd Central with nine points. Lucy Chester, Tamiya Foster, and Alexis Taylor scored eight points each.
Montgomery Central was led by Addison Beech, who scored 17 points, 15 of them coming in the second half of play. Sarah Rankhorn added 7 for the Lady Indians.
The Lady Rebels improve to 4-6 on the year. They are back in action Tuesday night against University Heights in the Zaxby’s Christmas Classic.
