The Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons got past the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers for the second time this season Tuesday, but this time they had to rally late to do it. Playing without senior Camryn LaGrange, the Lady Maroons used a fourth-quarter comeback to take the 60-57 win.
The game had been a back-and-forth affair throughout. Hopkinsville took a 17-11 lead after the opening quarter. LaTaijha Cherry and Donisha Flowers had a big first quarter for the Lady Tigers.
With Riley Sword heating up, Madisonville rallied in the second quarter to get to the front. As the half ended, the Lady Maroons were up 29-27.
Hopkinsville responded as the second half got underway. The Lady Tigers knocked down three shots from behind the arc in the quarter as they moved back to the lead at 44-40 going into the fourth.
Free throws would play a big part of how the game played out in the final quarter. Hopkinsville struggled at the line, going 0 for 6 down the stretch, while Madisonville was able to go 9 of 15 to get back to the lead and then hold on for the win.
Donisha Flowers led the Lady Tigers with 19 points. Kahtahvia Fleming finished with 13 points for Hoptown.
Riley Swords, who was named the MVP of the game, topped Madisonville’s effort with 20 points. Amari Lovan and Emilee Hallum added 11 points each.
