Long Range Lady Wildcats Open 2022 With Win

1-3-reynolds

Cory Coble calls this Trigg County girls’ basketball team the best shooting team he’s had in his six seasons as head coach. On Monday, the Lady Wildcats proved him right.

Trigg came out of the gate with 12 straight points and hit eight first half 3-pointers on its way to a 66-33 win over Dawson Springs at Wildcat Gym.

Tajah Grubbs and Kara Hyde hit the first two threes of the game that ignited the opening 12-0 run and set the tone for the game.

Abby Ward kept Dawson Springs within striking distance, scoring all eight of Dawson Springs’ first quarter points.

Down 21-8 after eight minutes, Macy Drennan knocked down a 3-pointer to get the Lady Panthers to within 21-11.  Trigg answered with six 3-pointers in the second quarter – three each by Hyde and Olivia Noffsinger to extend its lead to 42-15.

The Lady Wildcats hit 8 of 13 shots in the quarter including 6 of 10 behind the arc to lead 45-15 at the break.

Dawson Springs found some scoring balance in the second half as Brylee Spurlin scored six points, and Maddie Huddleston added four points.

Trigg County finished the game hitting 49-percent from the field and 9 of 21 behind the arc.

Noffsinger led the Lady Wildcats with a career-high 26 points and added four assists. Marleigh Reynolds scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Hyde’s four 3-pointers accounted for her 12 points.

Ward led Dawson Springs with 12 points. Spurlin and Gracie Harper added six points.

For the Lady Panthers, it was their first game in 24 days. One day after their last game, a tornado devastated Dawson Springs and closed the school, which was used as a recovery point for the town’s survivors.

They will return to action Tuesday with a district game against Madisonville.

Trigg County will play in the semifinals of the Class 2A sectionals Friday against either Union County or Paducah Tilghman.
