Even though he had “only” eight rebounds in Kentucky’s last game, Oscar Tshiebwe still easily leads the nation in rebounding with 15.2 rebounds per game. That’s 5.9 more rebounds per game than Colin Castleton of Florida, the next best rebounder in the Southeastern Conference.

Tonight LSU coach Will Wade gets a first-hand look at Tshiebwe when the Tigers host Kentucky but Wade has already seen plenty of Tshiebwe.

“Well damn, he averages six offensive rebounds a game. I’ve only got two players on my team that average more than six rebounds a game. I mean he averages more offensive rebounds than (LSU forward) Efton Reid averages rebounds,” said Wade.

“He puts his big ass at the front of the room. And he is physical and he just eats up every basketball at the front of the room.”

Wade says LSU likes to switch on defense and that could leave a guard inside trying to rebound with Tshiebwe. Wade knows that won’t work well for his team.

“He’s different, but he’s I mean, he’s the most effective rebounder in the country and the most effective offensive rebounder in the country,” Wade said. “They’re a tremendous offensive rebounding team because of him, because of (Keion) Brooks.

“You can forget about (Lance) Ware. You can’t forget about (Daimion) Collins who’s a tremendous, tremendous athlete as well. They’re like top 15 in the country in defensive rebounding too. So we’re not going to get a bunch of offensive rebounds.”

That’s because of Tshiebwe, one of college basketball’s best players and stories this season.

“Oscar’s just big and physical and just throws you out of the way and goes and goes and gets the ball and then he finishes at the front of the room,” Wade said.
