The Christian County Lady Colonels got 2022 off to a proper start Monday evening. The Lady Colonels got a big second half from Mikayah Killebrew and held off a strong 4th quarter push from Paducah Tilghman to take a 71-60 road win.

Christian County opened the night with a strong, balanced team effort. Seven different Lady Colonels scored in the first eight minutes of the game as Christian County took a 17-12 first-quarter lead.

It was Shaniah Bridges time in the second quarter. The senior heated up and scored 9 of her 11 points in the quarter as the Lady Colonels extended the lead to 33-18. Christian County’s defense limited the Lady Tornado to just two made field goals and two made free throws as the lead grew.

After scoring just two points in the first half, Mikayah Killebrew got things going for the Lady Colonels in the second half. Killebrew hit for nine points in the third quarter as Christian County pushed the lead on out to 52-31.

Killebrew stayed hot in the final quarter, and it turned out to be a good thing. After being held to just 31 points in the first three quarters, Paducah Tilghman ramped things up a big and hung 29 on the board in the 4th quarter.

However, with Killebrew scoring nine more in the 4th, and Destinee Catlett-Watkins going 3 of 4 at the line coming down the stretch, the Lady Colonels were able to take the eleven-point win.

Mikayah Killebrew topped the scoring column for Christian County with 20 points. Shaniah Bridges and Ne’Vaeh Day also hit double figures for the Lady Colonels with 11 points each.

Tilghman’s Diamond Gray led all scorers in the game with 22 points. Dasia Garland and Jayla Reed added 9 points each for the Lady Tornado.

Christian County improves to 5-7 on the year. They return to action Thursday night on the road at Ohio County.
