Jabrion Spikes Gets 30 as Caldwell Handles Dawson 77-56

Caldwell County seized the lead in the first quarter, took control in the second period, and cruised to a 77-56 victory over Dawson Springs Friday night in 7th District action at the CAB gym in Princeton.

The Tigers, now 13-4 overall and 3-0 in district play, never trailed in the contest.

A 12-2 run in the opening stanza turned an 11-7 advantage into a 23-9 lead, and Caldwell led 27-13 after 8 minutes.

Dawson (1-13, 0-5) tried to stay within striking distance in the second period, and was within 39-26 with less than 2 minutes left in the half.

But Caldwell scored the final six points of the stanza and got to halftime with a 45-26 advantage.

A 15-2 run in the third quarter helped the Tigers put the game away. A Jabrion Spikes dunk on a fast break on a pass off the glass from Carter Whittington capped the the run, giving Caldwell its biggest lead of the night at 60-30 with 3:11 left in the period.

Caldwell took a 62-38 lead to the fourth quarter.

The Tigers, who won at Dawson Springs 81-51 on Jan. 10, have taken 11 straight against the Panthers. Caldwell has won 26 of the last 27 meetings. CCHS leads the all-time series 97-43.

Spikes, who set a school record with 51 points in the win at Dawson earlier this season, had 30 points and 10 rebounds this time around.

Isaiah Joyner and Collin Whittington each had eight points for the Tigers. Caldwell had 12 different players score in the contest.

Caldwell has won seven of its last eight games this season.

Dawson was led by Rett Nieters’ 16 points. Dilyn Skinner added 15 and Rex Blue had 11.
