Last month, Muhlenberg County needed overtime to edge Trigg County in the championship game of the Murray Bank Lady Tiger Classic. There was no such drama Friday as the Lady Mustangs beat the Lady Wildcats 52-33 at Wildcat Gym.

The Lady Mustangs led wire to wire and scored the final 13 points of the first quarter to lead 18-4. Sophomore Brooklyn Stewart scored eight of Muhlenberg’s first quarter points.

The Lady Wildcats were charitable in the first quarter, turning the basketball over six times with Muhlenberg County converting the mistakes into 12 points.  Muhlenberg’s biggest lead in the first half was the 30-12 score at intermission.

Trigg County showed some fire in the third quarter as they scored the first 10 points. After seeing its lead trimmed to eight, Sarah-Cate Boggess responded with Muhlenberg‘s final five points of the quarter to give the Lady Mustangs a 13 point advantage heading into the final frame.

Trigg County could never get the deficit into single digits over the final eight minutes, and the final score was Muhlenberg‘s largest margin of the game.

Olivia Noffsinger led Trigg County with 16 points Friday.

After hitting 11 three-pointers in its win over Livingston Central Monday, Trigg was just 1 of 10 behind the arc Friday as Muhlenberg’s defense gave Trigg fits. The Lady Wildcats also didn’t help themselves at the free-throw line by hitting 12 and missing 14.

Stewart led Muhlenberg County with 22 points 11 rebounds. She hit three of the Lady Mustangs’ eight shots from behind the arc as Muhlenberg shot 43-percent from the field.

Olivia Noffsinger was the only Lady Wildcat in double figures with 16 points. Marleigh Reynolds and Kara Hyde both scored eight points with Reynolds adding 13 rebounds. Only four Trigg players scored in the game.

Trigg County has a pair of district games coming up next week. They will host Lyon County Monday night and travel to Livingston Central Friday. Crittenden County beat Livingston Friday to wrap up the number one seed in the district tournament.
