Lyons Tune Up Trigg With All A Classic Approaching

Lyon County tuned up for this week’s All-A Classic State Tournament with a resounding 80-39 district win at Trigg County Monday.

The Lyons scored the game’s first 20 points and was able to get the running clock enacted early in the third quarter.

Jackson Shoulders and Travis Perry combined to score Lyon’s first 11 points. Their pressure defense and quick outlet offense scored 14 points off eight Trigg first quarter turnovers.

Kendric Adams got Trigg on the board with 1:28 left in the quarter to end the 20-point Lyon run.

The Wildcats got as close as 19 points early in the second quarter, but an 18-4 Lyon run fueled by four layups in transition finished off Trigg.

Travis Perry knocked down six of Lyon’s seven 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 28 points. He also had five assists.

Brady Shoulders added 15 points, five rebounds, and a team-high six steals. Lyon was active in the passing lanes all night, getting 16 steals off 21 Trigg turnovers.  The Lyons scored 37 of their 80 points off turnovers.

Jackson Shoulders added a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Kendric Adams led Trigg County with 13 points and six rebounds.  Jhaden Vaughn, Trigg’s leading scorer on the season, had two points and left with a foot injury in the second quarter.

Khyran Vaughn added seven points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats who have now dropped 10 straight games to Lyon County.

Trigg County drops to 9-9 and will try and secure no worse than the No. 3 seed in the district tournament Friday when they travel to Livingston Central.

Lyon County is 13-4, including 10-0 against region competition, and will play Breathitt County Thursday in the first round of the All A Classic State Tournament in Richmond.  The Lyons will be looking for their first-ever win at the small school tournament.
