Like many of the best high school athletes in the area, UHA senior Ethan Alexander excels at more than one sport. He’s a standout for the Blazers on the soccer field, helping them to 8th-District titles as a junior and senior, and earning All-District recognition and a nod as the team’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.

He leads the Blazers on the tennis court as well, going undefeated in singles play in 8th and 9th grade and reaching the 2nd Region semifinals as a junior. Last season, his trip to the state tournament was the first for a Blazer singles player in nine years, and he returns as one of the favorites in the region in 2022.

Ethan’s achievements aren’t limited to the pitch and the court. He’s getting it done in the classroom and the community as well. He’s Summa Cum Laude at UHA and is a member of the National Honor Society, a senior Beta member, and was a part of the Youth Leadership class of 2020. He also competes in academic pursuits, including an Academic Team placement in Social Studies, Composition, and Quick Recall at the district and regional levels. In addition, throughout high school, he has been involved with Kentucky YMCA Youth Association and Kentucky United Nations Assembly.

While it might seem that all that would leave little time for much else, Ethan is already working toward what he hopes will be a career in sports journalism while having the time of his life along with some close friends.

With a lifelong affinity for playing and watching sports, including cheering for the Kentucky Wildcats, Buffalo Bills, and Utah Jazz, Ethan began to formulate a plan to turn his passion into a career when he was introduced to Barstool Sports in 2019. In the span of a year, he was asking for podcasting equipment for Christmas and preparing to try his hand at sports journalism/content creation.

With two close friends, Hoptown baseball player Charlie Rutland and UHA baseball player Eston Glover, Ethan launched The Threewind Podcast, a weekly sports/comedy production that covers all the major happenings over the last week. The name originates from a combination of Three friends doing a Rewind of the goings-on in the sports world. Ethan specializes in college and pro basketball and other miscellaneous topics, while Eston focuses on baseball and football, and Charlie provides insight and comic relief.

Since the podcast’s inception, the group has grown to include contributions from Christian County baseball players Chance Henderson and David Krzywada and UHA tennis player Riley Staton, with Julian Brown and Hoptown baseball standout Preston Chaudoin helping behind the scenes with equipment, production, and video. In addition to the podcast, Threewind Sports can be found on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok.

Ethan plans to attend Murray State University in the fall and major in journalism with a minor in sports communications. From there, he hopes to forge a sports journalism career with a dream of working for Barstool Sports, since that’s where his inspiration began. So a few years from now, if you hear a familiar voice talking sports on your favorite podcast or website, or maybe even see his smiling face on TV, don’t be surprised if it belongs to the former two-sport Blazers’ star who got his start with some good friends and fellow athletes in little ol’ Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
