The Christian County Lady Colonels put an end to their five-game losing streak with a solid road win Friday night. The Lady Colonels built a double-digit lead and then held off a big Calloway County rally to pick up a 59-55 win over the Lady Lakers.
The game opened with the two teams going back and forth. With 8th grader Salyer Love hitting for six points, Calloway County would hold a 15-14 lead after the opening quarter.
Love stayed hot during the second quarter, scoring ten more. That performance was enough to extend the Calloway County lead to 28-25 headed into the break.
The Christian County defense took over the game as the second half got underway. The Lady Colonels limited Calloway County to just four points, all from Love, while the offense got revved up, caught, and passed the Lady Lakers. With big quarters from Caitlyn Steele and Mikayah Killebrew, the Lady Colonels would take a 43-32 lead heading into the final quarter.
Salyer Love did everything in her power to bring the Lady Lakers back into the game, scoring 17 points in the final eight minutes, but it would not be enough as the Lady Colonels held on for the four-point win. NeVaeh Day and Anaysia Bagwell made enough free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Bagwell finished the game with 18 points for Christian County. Day added 11. Mikayah Killebrew also reached double-figures with 10.
Calloway County’s Salyer Love led all scorers in the game with 37 points.
Christian County improves to 6-12 with the win.
