Wildcat Size Takes Down Livingston’s Shooters 62-48

Max Downey was squarely on Trigg County’s defensive radar as the teams met Friday for a district showdown in Smithland. Less than two weeks after scoring 40 points in a loss against Trigg, the Wildcats were able to hold Downey to 15 points — 13 below his season average — in a 62-48 win in Smithland.

Trigg County led wire to wire, but Livingston Central got to within five points on multiple occasions in the second half, the last being 51-46 with 2:32 left.

Trigg County hit 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the win and hit 19 of 33 for the game.

The Wildcats put four players in double figures led by Jhaden Vaughn‘s 18 points and 14 rebounds. He also blocked five shots. Khyran Vaughn added 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Kendric Adams scored 13 points. Adams, who signed to play football at Lindsey Wilson College on Thursday, added a team-high five assists.

Trigg County shot 45% from the field and outrebounded Livingston 39-28. In addition to Downey’s 15 points, the Cardinals got 12 points from Jason Rains.

The Wildcats will play at Carlisle County Saturday.
