
Madisonville found itself in a familiar place at the end of Sunday’s Region I Swim Meet at Hopkinsville High School. The Maroons finished as region runner-up – the seventh straight year the Maroons have finished first or second at region.
Seth Spencer finished second in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:15.18 and was third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.65.
Reese Soriano was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:09.51 and seventh in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.92).
Sy Soriano was fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:41.68) and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.83).
Jude Gamblin was sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:22.53) and ninth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:44.61).
Adrian Chang was eighth in the 200-yard free (2:43.58).
Aiden Clark was eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke (2:04.46) and tenth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:47.82)
The 200-yard medley relay team of Reese Soriano, Seth Spencer, Sy Soriano, and Jude Gamblin finished in third place in 2:06.52. They also took fourth place in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:48.94.
Madisonville’s point total was 238. Murray won the region title with 381 points.
Sunday’s region meet at the Rick Cohn Aquatic Center was delayed two days due to the winter weather that left many roads in western Kentucky ice covered. Because of the delay, the preliminary round was scratched and Sunday’s event was a timed final.
First and second place finishers automatically qualify for the KHSAA Boys’ State Swimming Championships presented by UK HealthCare on February 18 at the University of Kentucky. The next 22 fastest times statewide will also qualify.
