
Murray High School had five swimmers claim individual titles and two relay teams win as the Tigers repeated as Region I champions Sunday.
Isaac Bourne won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:56.13, over four seconds faster than teammate Cooper Eye, who was second. Bourne finished in second place in the 100-yard free in 51.65 seconds.
Eye would win the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:25.53.
Gabe Turley won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:06.49 and took second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 56.21 seconds.
Seventh-grader Kellie Tobergte won the 50-yard free in a time of 23.50 seconds and won the 100-yard free in 51.48 seconds.
Mason McCallum was second in the 500-yard free in 5:41.37 and was third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.69)
John Outland was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.07 and was third in the 50-yard free (24.57)
Ethan Peng took second place in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.56 and was fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:26.82)
The 200-yard free relay team of Kellie Tobergte, Isaac Bourne, John Outland, and Gabe Turley won the event in 1:35.62.
The 400-yard free relay team of Kellie Tobergte, Cooper Eye, Isaac Bourne, and Gabe Turley won with a time of 3:31.90.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Cooper Eye, Ethan Peng, Mason McCallum, John Outland finished second in 1:54.07.
Murray totaled 381 points, which was 143 points more than second place Madisonville.
Sunday’s region meet at the Rick Cohn Aquatic Center was delayed two days due to the winter weather that left many roads in western Kentucky ice-covered. Because of the delay, the preliminary round was scratched and Sunday’s event was a timed final.
First and second place finishers automatically qualify for the KHSAA Boys’ State Swimming Championships presented by UK HealthCare on February 18 at the University of Kentucky. The next 22 fastest times statewide will also qualify.
