The Lady Tiger senior won two individual events, swam on two relay champions, hoisted a region champion trophy for a second straight year, and helped Murray win the combined title.  Stanczyk was voted the outstanding swimmer by the region’s coaches.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Katelynn Stanczyk, Meg Robinson, Coral Brogan, and Jenna Turley took first place and set a new region meet record with a time of 3:43.36, beating Paducah Tilghman’s two year-old record by over 1.5 seconds. They also won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:54.57.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sasha Patel, Anne-Marie Atkins, Amelie Johnson, and Jenna Turley rallied to win the event, with Turley swimming a 25-second split in the final leg. Their time was 1:46.74.

Murray’s point total of 541 points was 197 more than second place Hopkinsville. It was the second straight year Murray and Hoptown finished 1-2 at region.

Sunday’s region meet at the Rick Cohn Aquatic Center was delayed two days due to the winter weather that left many roads in western Kentucky ice covered. Because of the delay, the preliminary round was scratched and Sunday’s event was a timed final.

First and second place finishers automatically qualify for the KHSAA Girls’ State Swimming Championships presented by UK HealthCare on February 19 at the University of Kentucky. The next 22 fastest times statewide will also qualify.
