Murray’s Stanczyk Named Region’s Outstanding Swimmer

Katelynn Stanczyk was named the region’s outstanding swimmer at the conclusion of Sunday’s region meet in Hopkinsville.

The Murray High School senior, who signed to continue her swim career at Centre College last month, was a part of six first place finishes for Murray High Sunday.

Stanczyk won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.07 seconds and won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.14. They were her first individual region titles.

She also teamed with Meg Robinson, Coral Brogan, and Jenna Turley to win the 400-yard freestyle relay and set a new region meet record with a time of 3:43.36, beating Paducah Tilghman’s two-year-old record by over 1.5 seconds. They also won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:54.57.

In her swim career, Stanczyk finished first or second at region in six individual events and seven relay events.
