The Christian County Lady Colonels very nearly came up with a signature moment of the 2021-2022 basketball season Tuesday night. The Lady Colonels traveled to Owensboro Catholic and gave the Lady Aces all they wanted before falling 55-48.
Catholic has now won 9 of their last 11 games, with the two losses coming to Owen County in the championship game of the All A Classic and a one-point loss to 1st Region contender McCracken County.
Both teams struggled to get going early. The difference in the first quarter turned out to be Catholic making a three-point shot, as the Lady Aces led 9-6 after the first eight minutes.
Despite a huge quarter from Mikayah Killebrew, Christian County could not cut into the lead in the second quarter. O-Cath would inch the lead out to 27-23 at the break. Killebrew lit it up for 11 points in the second.
The two teams continued to play virtually even in the third quarter. When the quarter came to an end, the Lady Aces were up 41-36.
Christian County could just never quite get over the hump and get to the lead, as Owensboro Catholic would do what they needed to hold on to the lead and take the seven-point win.
Mikayah Killebrew led the Lady Colonels with 18 points. Anaysia Bagwell had a big effort with 16 points. Sarah Harris also reached double figures with 10.
The Lady Aces were paced by Karmin Riley, who ended up with 18 points. Hailee Johnson was the other member of the Lady Aces to hit double figures with 11.
The loss drops Christian County to 8-14 on the year. The Lady Colonels are back in action Thursday when they host Fort Campbell.
