There will be some significant changes in the scheduling for this year’s boys’ and girls’ 2nd Region basketball tournaments. The changes were made during a meeting of the 2nd Region athletic directors Wednesday.

In previous years, one tournament would be played on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, while the other would be played on Wednesday, Thursday, and then the following Monday and Tuesday. The order of the state tournaments would determine whether the boys’ region or the girls’ region started play first.

This year, the tournaments will be played on six consecutive dates, starting with the girls’ tournament on February 28 and alternating each date through the boys’ title game on March 5th.

Last year, with the COVID pandemic in place, the athletic directors decided to play first-round games on the home courts of district winners, with the semifinals and championship game to be played at the “regional tournament site.” That decision will stay in place this year, with each district winner to host a first round regional game in both tournaments.

One other noteworthy change was approved. The boys’ final will be played at 1:00pm on Saturday, instead of the traditional night game.

The schedule for this year’s regional tournaments looks like this:

February 28 – Girls’ first-round games at school sites – 6:30pm
March 1 – Boys’ first-round games at school sites – 6:30pm
March 2 – Girls’ semifinals at Madisonville-North Hopkins – 6pm & 730pm
March 3 – Boys’ semifinals at Hopkinsville – 6pm & 730pm
March 4 – Girls’ final at Madisonville-North Hopkins – 7pm
March 5 – Boys’ final at Hopkinsville – 1pm
