Lady Colonels Take Care of Business Against Fort Campbell

The Christian County Lady Colonels kicked off a hectic end to the 2021-2022 season Thursday night by rolling past Fort Campbell 67-17 in a home court 8th District matchup. The win kicked off a stretch of six games over 8 days for the Lady Colonels.

The Lady Colonels came out and settled the issue early in the game Thursday night. Christian County scored the first 20 points of the game and never looked back. The Lady Colonels would hold a 32-4 lead after the opening quarter.

NeVaeh Day was more than a handful for the Lady Falcons early in the contest. Day’s length and quickness around the basket led to several easy scores in the opening quarter for Christian County.

Christian County’s defense also caused early difficulties for Fort Campbell. During the 20-0 stretch to open the game, there were several possessions that saw the Lady Falcons not be able to reach their end of the court.

The Lady Colonels would continue their roll as the second quarter got underway. Christian County opened the quarter with a 17-2 run to extend the margin to 49-6. Reserves would see much of the action for the Lady Colonels over the final five minutes of the half as the lead was 49-11 at the break.

One of the highlight plays for the Lady Falcons in the game came early in the second quarter when Rosella Rajj blocked a Christian County shot and took it the length of the court for a layup. Fort Campbell also had buzzer-beaters at the end of each of the first two quarters. Hope Balzeski doing the honors at the end of the first and Marlie Fanning beating the halftime buzzer.

Christian County starters would not return to the court in the second half as Coach Kiki Radford used the opportunity to get some of her younger players some extended game action. The Christian County lead would be 58-14 after three. The Lady Colonels would then cruise on out to the final 52 point margin.

NeVaeh Day led the way for the Lady Colonels with 13 points. Kenady Quarles came off the bench to add 9 for Christian County. Destinee Catlett-Watkins finished with 8 points, as did Anaysia Bagwell.

Rosella Rajj was the top scorer for Fort Campbell with seven points. Marlie Fanning ended the night with five.

Christian County improves to 9-14 overall and 3-1 in the 8th District. The Lady Colonels will host Trigg County for Senior Night Friday night.

Fort Campbell drops to 1-15 and 0-5. The Lady Falcons will host Victory Baptist Academy, out of Shelbyville, Tennessee Friday night in their Senior Night game.
