On Thursday, a sluggish 1st quarter at Dawson Springs left the University Heights Academy girls’ basketball team with a double-digit deficit that proved too much to overcome in a 56-46 loss to the Lady Panthers.
Dawson Springs snaps a six-game losing streak to improve to 7-15. The Lady Blazers slip to 4-17 with a trip to Butler County coming up on Saturday.
The Lady Panthers fueled the decisive 1st-quarter stretch from behind the arc, with Abby Ward and Gracie Harper each knocking down a pair of 3-pointers for an 18-4 advantage.
Amaryia Bass and Alicia Davis answered with six points each for the Lady Blazers in the 2nd quarter, and they outscored the Lady Panthers 15-14 for a 32-19 score.
Both teams were cold out of the halftime break, combining evenly for only 14 3rd-quarter points.
Bass led the Lady Blazers’ 4th-quarter efforts with nine points, and Davis added six more to her game-high 21. However, Harper put up nine for the Lady Panthers, and Macy Drennan went 5/6 at the free-throw line to seal the victory.
